Evolution of Pharma Volumes and Tradelanes

During the past 10 years, pharmaceutical air trade has experienced above industry growth. At first, this came from growth in traditional medicaments, but more recently, the boom has shifted to higher value and temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals. In particular, cool pharma has been growing ahead of general air trade; however, high demand currently being witnessed by airlines and airports is likely also caused by a shift to cool pharma bookings driven by new regulations.

While mid-value pharmaceuticals continue to shift away from air transport to ocean freight, high-value pharmaceuticals (frequently cool pharma) continue to be transported via air. Seabury’s Jonathan Mellink guides us through the evolution of pharma’s ever-changing needs.
